  3. This is a quick release of my Word 8 filter for PageStream 3 & 4
  4. before I go off into the week.
  5.  
  6. The filter loads the main flowtext of Word 8 documents. This should
  7. be Word 97-Word 2000 currently (I think). Complex (fast-saved)
  8. files are currently not supported.
  9.  
  10. There are no real requirements. If your Amiga runs PageStream,
  11. the filter should work. No FPU required this time. To install,
  12. copy the file Word8.tfilter to SoftLogik:Filters and you're done.
  13.  
  14. It is a text filter only, so you must create an article, place
  15. the text cursor in it and choose "Insert Text..." from the menu.
  16.  
  17. The filter currently does not load any text formattings. The
  18. controls in the window should be self-explaining except maybe
  19. "Apply Styles Only". If this option is enabled, the filter will
  20. apply character and paragraph formats as they are in the original
  21. Word document. That means you can quickly give large documents
  22. the format of your choice by defining the same styles as in
  23. the original Word doc.

  25. Support for some special characters (typographical quotes,
  26. ellipses, en- and em-dashes) is not yet finished, but the
  27. most important chars should already be supported. An update
  28. will follow.

  30. Text formattings will be imported in a future version, as this
  31. is apparently wished by many PageStream users. However, I only
  32. can work on it on weekends, so please bear with me. Look for
  33. Christmas/New Year as possible release if no problems occur.
